First, I want to start off by saying this is as close to a 5 star book as i have read in a while, but I must admit, I am on to reading the new Elon book and so far I am really into that as well. This book is David Goggins meets Bad Ass Hunter! While very similar to Goggins’ book this really is a very different story. Cameron Haynes is obviously very passionate about Bowhunting, and that topic takes up the lion’s share (or maybe I should say bear or elk’s share) of the book. I love how he trains to hunt. Very atypical approach to the sport and he obviously takes a lot of crap about it. It is amazing that there are haters in all sports.
The underlying theme and something that he makes absolutely clear is the fact that he is a “regular” guy who just happens to have trained so hard and honed a skill that his efforts have become inspirational to many. This is so reminiscent of what I tell the students that I get to speak to annually at Southeastern Louisiana University. You can influence people, a department, a business, a university just by doing something so well, that people have to stop and say “WOW!”
I will admit that some of the hunting details were more than I needed, but he did it for a very specific reason. he wanted to explain how rigid his approach is and how dangerous the sport can actually be.
What do other reviewers have to say?
