As the year draws to a close, it’s time to solidify your plan for 2025. If you haven’t yet finalized your strategy, don’t worry—this edition of Enhanced Performance is here to guide you. At General Informatics, where I serve as CEO and President, we’ll unveil our 2025 plan at our Kickoff Meeting. But here’s the key: there will be no surprises. Why? Because every member of our team is involved in creating the plan. That’s how you gain true buy-in and alignment!
Whether you’re refining your existing strategy or starting from scratch, a clear Vision Statement and Mission Statement are essential. These foundational elements anchor your organization’s strategic direction and guide every decision you make. If you don’t have these in place, it’s time to prioritize them. Once you’ve got your vision and mission set, here’s a step-by-step process to create a winning corporate plan. For more in-depth guidance, check out my book Enhanced Corporate Performance—it’s packed with actionable insights.
Define Strategic Goals
Using your mission and vision as a foundation, outline the key initiatives you’ll focus on in 2025. Be sure these goals are SMART—Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. Once the Executive Leadership team identifies the initiatives that align with your corporate vision and have the potential to make a meaningful impact, it’s time to engage your broader team. Collaboration at this stage ensures alignment and clarity.
Break Down Goals into Actionable Steps
Next, assign these strategic initiatives to Regional and Director-Level Management. Their job is to involve team members at all levels, ensuring each initiative is relevant, achievable, and impactful. Once feedback is gathered, Regional Managers (RMs) and Directors (DLMs) will present their findings to the Executive Leadership team for final review and approval. Each initiative should be broken down into actionable steps with clearly defined responsibilities, timelines, and ownership.
At General Informatics, we take transparency seriously—our corporate plan is published on the intranet for everyone to see. Every teammate knows what the Executive Team is responsible for and how their individual contributions align with the overarching strategy. This level of clarity not only guides daily actions but also simplifies annual reviews, ensuring we’re all rowing the boat in the same direction.
Engage Your Team
A plan is only as effective as the people behind it. Once finalized, share the corporate plan with your entire organization. Host a company-wide meeting or Corporate Plan Brief to ensure every employee understands their role in achieving the company’s objectives. Involving employees—especially those closest to the customer—in strategic planning leads to better insights, stronger alignment, and, ultimately, greater success for your customers and your organization.
Monitor and Adjust
Remember: a corporate plan isn’t static. Regularly review progress, using performance metrics and team feedback to measure success. Be prepared to adapt as needed to stay aligned with your goals and the ever-changing business environment. Flexibility and responsiveness are key to long-term success.
Lets Go!
Let’s make 2025 a year of clarity, alignment, and purpose. By crafting a thoughtful plan, empowering your team, and staying agile in execution, you’ll set your organization on a path to success.
